Parent Teacher Communication Policy

Our focus is to provide the students in our care with the best possible opportunity to learn and reach their potential. We strive to work together as a team with parents to achieve this. Every effort is made to maintain open and transparent lines of communication between home and school. Trust and openness is needed by all parties in the best interest of all members of the school community.


Parent information evenings: At the beginning of each year a parent information evening will be conducted by teachers in Years 1-6. 3 Year old and 4 year old Kindergarten will conduct this evening in Term 4 of the year, prior to students commencing. The purpose of these evenings is to inform parents of class specific content and housekeeping. Any sacraments or extra curricular events pertaining to the class, will also be communicated.

Parent/Teacher Interviews: At the end of Term 1 our teachers will conduct individual parent teacher interviews to discuss the progress and achievement of the children. The evidence collected in class and throughout relevant assessment will be used during this interview. Kindergarten will conduct their parent interviews at the end of Term 2, in conjunction with any pressing issues being dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Newsletter/ Term Calendars: Each week the St Benedict’s newsletter is produced highlighting important school and community events. In addition our calendar is live on our website with all the important dates for the year.

School Website: The school website is designed to provide parents with all the necessary communications including relevant polices and school related information.

Electronic communication: We endeavour to maintain open lines of communication from home to school to further improve the educational outcomes we can offer the students in our care. We will endeavour to return email communications within a maximum 48 hour period, with more pressing matters to be handled on a case-by-case basis. Emails sent through on a Friday will be replied to by close of business on the following Monday. Teachers may utilise blogs or other forms of Internet based communication in their classroom. For specific details about these, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
