Our schools Parents and Friends association (P&F) is run by volunteer parents. Throughout the year our P&F organise countless fundraising and community events which highlight the generosity of our school community.
Fundraising events are designed for a two part purpose. They are a great way to bring our community together and raise vital funds needed for the continual improvement of our school. The funds raised from these events go directly to purchasing particular items needed in class, such as reading books. They also raise valuable funds to update our facilities, such as they shade sails that have been installed over our playgrounds.
Community Events traditionally have not been run as a fundraiser as the intention is to give back to our school community and establish stronger relationships within our school and wider community. These event’s are priced to cover anticipated costs but if a profit is made it is donated to a ‘Champion Charity.’
Champion Charity: The School Pack Project
Students at St Benedict's School in Applecross have adopted the The School Pack Project Charity as part of the school’s focus on building students’ understanding of social justice. Students will lead the whole school project and be involved in planning, fundraising, purchasing stationery, personalising items and filling stationery packs to pass on to children in WA refuges.
WHAT is the School Packs Project?
The School Packs Project provides bags of essential school stationery to Western Australian children in refuges escaping from violent situations. These children often arrive at school with no stationery supplies which hinders their ability to learn and makes them different to the other students. They have often already experienced trauma, abuse and hardship, and lacking school supplies just adds to stigmatising these students and damaging their self-esteem.
